Bob asked:

I am 16 years old, 5,11 and 275 lb. What position will be best for me. I am strong and lift a lot of heavy weight. I’m thinking of joining the high school football team.

id have to say guard because of your lack of height.
but that depends if you can move well.

or you could be a defensive tackle.

In football to be good you need in addition to size and strength is speed and quickness. these will effect where you will be most effective.
Talk to your coaches they will help you to develop.

I was similar size at your age and played Offesnsive Gaurd…It’s not the glamour position of Running Back or Receiver, but it’s alot of fun…Grinding it out, hitting people, pushing people over…If you are quick enough, try defensive end, go after the QB and get some sacks, that’s a glamour position…Good luck, don’t stop working hard!

If you have never played the game, you might want to take a realistic look at it. Look at the conditioning practices, how much running is involved. Can/will you be able to do it??? Be honest with yourself!!!

LINEMEN, LINEMEN, LINEMEN! Do you like defending the Quarteback or Crushing the Quarterback? Let me tell you Defense is FUN you get a chance to make big plays at the line breaking through the barrier and sacking their quarterback to the ground. its a good feeling! You also get a big chance to pick up fumbles…If this intrests you then try for Defensive linemenm,If you like makeing sure the Quarback is safe and knocking the Defencsive linemen on thier ass’s then try point Guard on the Offensive line!~

nose guard/nose tackle because you are not that tall. They tend to be the shortest in the defensive team.
